The Barbara T Sabo Scholarship Foundation
The race for the cure is apparent, the need for creative expression as that cure continues to be found even more so. Art is a powerful way of telling the story of why the disease must end, how surviving the disease, even for another day, is a struggle and great life teacher and a part of every woman's journey, including Barbara's.
The Barbara T. Sabo Scholarship Foundation aids artists whose lives have been directly affected by breast cancer and are in need of financial assistance to continue their study of art and the creative process.

about barbara sabo Barbara loved making art, any kind of art. She sculpted metal and clay, drew with dusty charcoal and Japanese ink brushes, collaged late into the night, watercolored award-winning still-lifes, she even stewed backyard flowers into pulpy paper murals. A stickler for the right word, Barbara also enjoyed language arts, writing and theatre in particular.
Creative exploration and expression were Barbara's passion and her touchstone, especially during her struggle with breast cancer from 1985-1988. She encouraged creative exploration as a way of life in her four children and all she knew. And she specifically appreciated education and travel as two means of developing the inspirational ideas to ignite that creativity.
Barbara's mother, and her maternal grandmother both died of breast cancer and, ultimately, Barbara too was taken by the disease at age 48. |
